Are there Michelin restaurants in Hoi An?
No. Not one — no stars, no Bib Gourmands, not even a MICHELIN Selected entry. The MICHELIN Guide has been publishing in Vietnam since 2023, and across four editions it has never rated a single restaurant in Hoi An. If a menu board on Trần Phú says "Michelin recommended", it is either borrowing Da Nang's reflected glory or simply making it up.
That is the whole answer, and most pages would stop there. But something odd happened in 2025 that makes the question worth a longer look: Hoi An is now, on paper, part of a city the MICHELIN Guide covers — and still nowhere in the selection.
What the 2026 guide actually covers
The MICHELIN Guide Hanoi | Ho Chi Minh City | Da Nang 2026 was announced on 4 June 2026. It is the fourth Vietnamese edition, and it names 193 establishments across those three cities and nowhere else.

Eleven stars is a first — it is the earliest edition in which Vietnam has reached double figures. Hoi An's share of all of it is zero.
The merger oddity — why this is a fair question now
Here is the part that trips people up, and it is not your fault for being confused.
On 1 July 2025 Vietnam redrew its own map, consolidating 63 provinces into 34. Quảng Nam province — the province Hoi An had always belonged to — was dissolved and absorbed into Da Nang City. The old district tier went with it. Hoi An is no longer a city in its own right; it is a set of wards inside the enlarged Da Nang.
So if you look purely at the address on your visa paperwork, Hoi An sits inside Da Nang, and Da Nang is a MICHELIN Guide city. It would be reasonable to conclude that Hoi An restaurants are therefore eligible, or even already listed.
They are not. Every one of the 47 recognised establishments in Da Nang stands in the old city proper — Hải Châu, Sơn Trà, Ngũ Hành Sơn, Thanh Khê and the wards around them. MICHELIN's "Da Nang" still means the pre-merger city, not the new administrative one. The guide's map and the government's map have quietly stopped agreeing with each other, and nobody has said when — or whether — they will line up again.
To be plain: Hoi An has not been inspected and passed over. It has simply never been in scope, and a reshuffle it had no say in has not changed that.
The nearest Michelin food to Hoi An
About 30km up the coast — 40 to 50 minutes in a car, depending on whether you take the beach road or the town route — Da Nang has 47 recognised places.

A star dinner is a whole evening's commitment from Hoi An — the drive up, the cable car at the resort end, the drive back. The Bib Gourmands are the easier pleasure: cheap, local, and a good reason to spend a lunchtime in Da Nang. What Hoi An has instead
Hoi An's food does not need a rosette, and it was never really competing for one. What it has is a dish that exists nowhere else and a river that makes an ordinary dinner feel like an occasion.
- Cao lầu — thick, chewy noodles with pork and greens, made with water from the town's old wells. You cannot eat it properly outside Hoi An. Cao lầu tastes better by candlelight.
- Vietnamese restaurants — 80 of them in our listings, from bánh mì counters with international reputations to riverside kitchens that have been in the same family for decades.
- Fine dining — 51 places doing the linen-and-wine-list version, several of them in restored merchant houses and hotel courtyards. No stars, but no star prices either.
- Food tours — the fastest way to learn the town's food if you only have a few nights, and the best cure for standing in front of a stall you do not understand.

What would change the answer
Three things, realistically:
- MICHELIN announces a new destination. The guide has added a Vietnamese city roughly every other edition — Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in 2023, Da Nang in 2024. Hoi An would be a natural fourth, and nothing has been announced.
- MICHELIN redraws "Da Nang" to match the new city limits. This is the quiet one. The guide would not need a new destination at all — only to accept the government's boundaries, and Hoi An's kitchens would become eligible overnight.
- A Hoi An chef opens in a covered city. It already happens in reverse: restaurants trading on the Hoi An name hold entries in Ho Chi Minh City. That is a Saigon distinction, not a Hoi An one, and we will not report it as one.

Nothing has been announced. Vietnam's selection has grown one city at a time, so it is plausible, but as of August 2026 there is no date and no hint of one.
